Don’t give up on your old blog posts. Instead, repurpose them to create new content. You put a lot of time and effort into your blog posts, and they can continue to work for you, long after their publication date. Here are 5 ways to get more out of this longform content.
1 – Create social media content
This is one of the easiest and fastest ways to repurpose blog posts. Take key points or quotes from your old blog posts and turn them into social media graphics or posts. This can help you reach new audiences and drive traffic back to your website.
For a blog post like this one, I’ll create a carousel post to share on Instagram that lists a point on each slide. Then I’ll create a Reel using a trending sound to list each point. And for a TikTok I would probably do a talking video where I address each point and give a little more information.
2 – Create a video or podcast episode
If you have a popular blog post, consider turning it into a video or podcast episode. This can help you reach new audiences that prefer consuming content in ways other than a blog post. A new format can also freshen up your content. There are many successful podcasts that share their video recording on YouTube and vice versa.
3 – Create a roundup post
Compile your best-performing blog posts on a specific topic and create a new post that links to and summarizes each one. This can be a great way to showcase your expertise on a particular subject while also attracting new readers. A roundup post is a great way to focus on SEO and drive new readers to your website.
4 – Update and republish
Go back through your old blog posts and see if there are any that could benefit from an update or refresh. Once you’ve made the necessary changes, republish the post and share it on your social media channels.
Updating the post will catch Google’s attention and give you a better chance of being shown in search results. I’ve had this technique work well with a blog post I wrote featuring a tent review. When first published, the post received a modest number of views. A year later, I went in to update the post with how the tent was holding up. It’s now one of the best preforming posts on the blog and gets shown on Google as a critic review.
5 – Turn posts into an e-book
If you have a collection of related blog posts, consider turning them into an e-book that you can offer as a lead magnet or sell on your website. It’s easier than ever to do this. Copy and paste your selected posts into a Word doc, edit it, and save it as a PDF. Or you can use an online tools like the Print My Blog plugin.
It’s easier than ever to repurpose blog posts. It’s also more important than ever. In a world of ever increasing content consumption, finding new ways to share content you’ve already created will save you a lot of time and effort.
